My journey with dermatillomania has left its physical marks. These scars tell a story of healing. The road isn’t always easy, but finding peace with my skin, and myself, is worth every step. Here’s to embracing our full selves, scars and all 🤛

🤫 My “ugly secret” from COVID times? I secretly loved wearing masks. It was a strange kind of freedom, being able to hide half my face 😷 that I picked every day.

As an introvert I also loved working from home and not having to be social… but of course I don’t miss the uncertainty, fear of getting sick, or having my pre-schooler home with me…

I’m just sharing this as a reminder of the hidden struggles many of us carry, to meet expecations that seem so simple to others.

I hear you, life is hard! A real shitshow at times, with one challenge followed by another, again and again and again! It tests your limits, but also expands them. True strength and resilience are about learning to face challenges head-on, navigate through them, and keep moving forward.

Today, my skin and I are having a good day, a day without picking. It’s deeply personal, yet I’m putting it out there because these moments show that healing is possible, one day at a time.

How old were you when you discovered that it’s not just you doing this picking, pulling, biting, etc thing and that it’s actually a disorder with a name? Plus you’re not alone!!!

My hormones have a major impact on my dermatillomania (skin picking disorder). Anyone else notice this? 🙋‍♀️

During that certain time in my cycle, the urges are so much stronger.

Knowing this helps me prepare and put my coping strategies (like using pimple patches to cover triggers) into action. It’s not just about willpower, it’s about understanding my body.

A setback, not a failure. This is what my healing journey with dermatillomania looked like in a difficult moment. It’s a challenging road, and moments like these felt defeating at the time, but they won’t define me. I chose to see this as a temporary detour, not the end of the road. My resilience is stronger than any urge to pick. This is a reminder to embrace self-compassion and continue fighting for my well-being. To anyone else out there facing similar struggles: keep going. You are stronger than you think.

It’s been a week (and a weekend) of challenges: Rainy days, sick kids, missing out on things we were excited about…
But I’m taking a tiny moment of peace in the chaos. Sometimes, that’s all the therapy I need.

Life is hard.
Parenting is hard.
To keep going is hard.
Remembering yourself is necessary.

My scars? They’re chapters in my story of fighting dermatillomania. Every mark speaks to the emotional rollercoaster of life and the battles I’ve faced. I used to cope by picking, but I’m actively learning to redirect those habits and embrace healthier choices.
It’s a challenge every single day, but I know I’m worth it.

To anyone else on this journey: you are not alone. Keep fighting, one day at a time. ❤️
